Chelsea will reportedly need to shell out a sum of £60 million if they wish to secure the signing of Manchester City and England winger Raheem Sterling.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea will need to submit an offer of around £60 million to Manchester City to sign Raheem Sterling in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Sterling is staring at an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium as he enters the final year of his contract with the Premier League champions. The 27-year-old is unhappy over his reduced stature within the roster, and the addition of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland could see the England star’s game-time take a further hit in the upcoming season.
With the former Liverpool ace postponing contract talks with the Cityzens, a sale is very much on the cards this summer. And Chelsea are among the teams looking to raid Manchester City for Sterling this summer.
Chelsea are looking to revamp their attacking unit as Thomas Tuchel looks to bounce back strongly after finishing behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League. Romelu Lukaku is likely to be shown the doors this summer, whereas question marks continue to hang over the future of other attacking players like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic.
A move for Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele has been touted heavily due to the Frenchman’s past association with Tuchel. However, Chelsea are having second thoughts about a move for the 25-year-old, leading to their increased interest in Manchester City star Raheem Sterling.
Able to play on either flank or through the middle, Sterling would add depth and quality across the frontline for Chelsea. A top-quality, proven performer in his peak, the Englishman can become a brilliant signing for the Blues. However, for that to happen, the west London outfit will need to shell out a significant transfer fee.
Indeed, as per Sky Sports, Chelsea would need to pay £60 million to Manchester City to lure Sterling to Stamford Bridge this summer. However, considering that he is entering the final year of his contract, the Blues feel that a fee of around £35 million, which Liverpool are set to receive for Sadio Mane from Bayern Munich, would be more suitable.

Despite the apparent difference in valuation, Chelsea are confident of signing Sterling. Reports also indicate that the English forward is open to joining the Blues, having started his youth career at another London-based club in QPR. Whether the two clubs can arrive at a middle ground over the fee will decide the fate of this transfer in the coming weeks.
