Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham will reportedly need to cough up £45 million to sign Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur know how much they will need to pay to secure the services of Marc Cucurella in the summer transfer window. Brighton & Hove Albion will demand £45 million to part with the Spanish left-back.
Marc Cucurella spent his formative years at two Catalan clubs, first rising through the ranks at Espanyol before completing his footballing education at FC Barcelona. The Spaniard made his debut for Barcelona B in 2016 but failed to establish a foothold at Camp Nou, instead earning his breakthrough at SD Eibar and later at Getafe.
The 23-year-old completed a surprising move to Brighton & Hove Albion last summer and enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign. Cucurella turned out 39 times for the Seagulls while winning their two Player of the Season awards. And the Spanish left-back’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur setting their sights on him.
The interest from Chelsea stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri. While Alonso is heavily linked with Barcelona, Emerson could return to Italy this summer. And with Ben Chilwell only just returning from a long-term injury, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will need another quality left wing-back, making Cucurella a viable target.
As for Manchester City, the Cityzens will need to invest in a left-back in the summer after utilising Joao Cancelo as a makeshift left-back all season. With Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Manchester City future suddenly up in the air, Cucurella has emerged on Manchester City’s radar, with the 23-year-old a solid long-term option.
Meanwhile, Tottenham could look beyond Sergio Reguilon in the summer transfer window, with the Spanish left-back failing to convince Antonio Conte this season. Signing Cucurella will enable the Italian tactician to bring in a player who can reprise any left-sided role. And Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City now know how much they will have to shell out for the youngster.
Brighton will demand £45 million to part with the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window. That price tag might not be steep for Chelsea and Manchester City, but Tottenham might have second thoughts about pursuing Cucurella, especially if he costs £45 million. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the young Spanish left-back.
