La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly weighing up offering a swap deal to Manchester City to sign Bernardo Silva, with Frenkie de Jong going the other way.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Bernardo Silva has popped up on Barcelona’s radar over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan heavyweights are considering offering Frenkie de Jong to Manchester City in a swap deal to land the Portuguese playmaker.
Bernardo Silva has resurrected his stuttering career this term after a few years of going in and out of Pep Guardiola’s side at Manchester City. Despite his desperation to leave, he failed to seal a departure from the Etihad. But the 27-year-old put his head down and concentrated on delivering the goods on the pitch, and he has done exactly that this season.
The Portuguese international has produced a solid tally of 13 goals and six assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. But Silva remains somewhat unsettled at Manchester City and is open to exploring a new project in the summer transfer window, with widespread speculation linking him with a possible exit. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.
The interest from Barcelona could be stemming from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch international remains one of the better performers for the Blaugrana, but his position is getting increasingly precarious by the day.
Recent reports have suggested that de Jong is considering leaving Barcelona, who will part ways with him if an attractive offer came their way. And as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could use their key midfielder to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, offering him as part of a swap deal.
Interestingly, de Jong has recently emerged as a priority target for Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola keen on ironing out the issues in his squad to challenge for the UEFA Champions League next season. So it might not be surprising to see Manchester City agreeing to Barcelona’s swap offer if it came their way.
Silva is eager to leave the Premier League, while Xavi Hernandez views the Portuguese playmaker a vital addition to his squad. It will be interesting to see how Manchester City will respond to a swap offer if the Catalan giants put de Jong on the table in the summer transfer window.
