Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer £35 million to Manchester City to get Gabriel Jesus on board at the Emirates.
According to a report by football.london, Arsenal are involved in talks with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus’s entourage over a possible summer move. The report claims that the Gunners are expected to submit a bid in the region of £35 million to sign the Brazilian attacker.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for a striker ever since it became clear that none of their three first-team centre-forwards who started the 2021/22 season will stay beyond the summer. While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was offloaded in the January transfer window, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are expected to move on in the summer.
This would leave Mikel Arteta short-handed on the striking front and a centre-forward signing is thus high on Arsenal’s agenda. They were heavily linked with a move for Dusan Vlahovic, previously of Fiorentina, in the January transfer window, but the Serbian striker chose Juventus instead.
The Gunners have also been linked with former Chelsea and current AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham. But as per the aforementioned report, the Serie A side will demand a fee in the region of £65-70 million for the English international, which could hamper Arsenal’s moves for reinforcements in other positions.
Gabriel Jesus has thus emerged as a viable option for Arsenal. The Brazilian would be willing to leave the Etihad this season after falling down the pecking order. He will have just a year remaining on his contract after the ongoing season and Manchester City would want to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Even though Jesus has found form recently, also scoring in a 4-3 first-leg UEFA Champions League semi-final win over Real Madrid, it is highly unlikely that he will get a much-improved role next season. Manchester City are expected to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, leaving Jesus to look for potential suitors.

At Arsenal, the 25-year-old will become one of the most important players and will get regular game time as the club’s only out-and-out striker. He also has ample Premier League experience under his belt, which bodes well for the Gunners. But it will be interesting to see if a £35 million bid does the trick for Arsenal.
