Manchester City have reportedly identified Alexander Isak as a possible alternative to Erling Haaland as they look to strengthen their frontline in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City are looking at other potential transfer targets in case they miss out on the capture of Erling Haaland. Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak has emerged as a possible Plan B for the Premier League champions.
The 22-year-old has been with Sociedad since 2019 after arriving from Borussia Dortmund. Having endured a tough spell with the German giants, Isak has flourished since arriving in Spain. To date, the Swede has scored 41 goals and assisted eight more in 120 matches for La Real.
Isak enjoyed his best campaign in 2020/21, as he netted 17 goals from 34 La Liga matches. However, his form has declined in the ongoing campaign as the striker has scored just four times in 22 league outings and eight times from 31 games in all competitions.
Despite the downturn in form, Isak’s stock remains intact as some of the biggest clubs across Europe have their sights set on him. Real Madrid are looking at the 22-year-old as an alternative for Haaland, while there is interest from Barcelona and Arsenal as well. Now, Manchester City have entered the fray to sign Isak from Real Sociedad in the summer.
Manchester City did not sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero last year and have largely played without a recognised No. 9 on the pitch this season. Despite that, Pep Guardiola’s side have shown no signs of slowing down and are on course to win the Premier League title, while also competing in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
However, Guardiola recently confirmed that he wants to bring in a striker in the summer before next season commences. Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund remains their preferred target. But if they miss out on the Norwegian, they are keeping their options open, with Jonathan David of Lille emerging as an alternative, along with Harry Kane of Tottenham and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
Isak, too, has popped up on their radar as one such contingency option if a move for Haaland falls through. However, if the latest reports from the Daily Mail are to be believed, the Cityzens may not have to look for a Plan B as they have a deal in place to sign Haaland.
