SL Benfica have confirmed the sale of their goalkeeping superstar Ederson Moraes to Manchester City in a €40 million deal.
Manchester City have been going about their business with some lightning pace after the end of the season. Bernardo Silva has already agreed a move to the Etihad and SL Benfica have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the sale of Ederson.
The player is set to move to Etihad in a €40 million deal, which makes the goalkeeper the second-highest transfer for a player in the said position, the first being Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon.
The news has been greeted with much gumption across social media platforms. There has been a debate over who the most expensive goalkeeper is, with Buffon edging it in Euros while the Brexit effect means Ederson’s figure becomes the highest in GBP terms.
Ederson becomes world most expensive goalkeeper $40M. Madness!

In £’s he is he most expensive, but it’s not possible to balance both deals on £’s. Either way, Ederson is flipping expensive #MCFC

The €40m fee for Ederson is a world record for a goalkeeper. 50% of the fee is set to go to third parties. (Source: @SLBenfica )

While some reflected on the potential effect of the deal on De Gea’s asking price, others hinted at City attempting to buy the league.
40 million for Ederson then De Gea should go for a world record

€40m for Ederson, i’d definitely want atleast €100m for DDG then. https://t.co/rZRYsFn9sv

City inadvertently helping ManU with that ridiculous price for Ederson. De Gea just became about 30% more expensive
— Dumoulist (@hahostolze) June 1, 2017
If City have paid £35 mill for Ederson that surely makes De Gea’s value astronomically higher?!
— George Belgrove (@belgrove) June 1, 2017
If Ederson is worth 40m € De Gea should be worth a minimum 100m.

Ederson for 35 million is insane. He’s played about 30 games in the Portuguese league.

There were some positive responses as well.
Only watched this Ederson guy properly for 1 game vs Dortmund and he was insanely good, great signing for City really
