Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has made a damning statement for Chelsea fans, over the future of their star midfielder.
In a recent interview with Radio Bianconera, as cited by Transfer Market Web, Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has fueled speculations over the midfielder’s future. He claims that the Italian’s dream is to return to his homeland and there could be many potential suitors including Juventus.
Currently plying his trade at Chelsea, Jorginho has had a sensational year. He was a key figure under Thomas Tuchel’s team that secured the UEFA Champions League during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign before starring in Italy’s sensational triumph in the European Championship this summer.
Jorginho was even voted UEFA’s Best Player of the Year at the end of last month. But it appears his long-term future at Chelsea could be under doubt.
According to his agent, Santos, Jorginho’s dream is to return to Italy. He shed light on how close the midfielder was to securing a transfer to Juventus when Maurizio Sarri was in charge of the Bianconeri.
“In the past, when there was Sarri, there was the possibility that he would come to Juventus. The Juventus director had done a poll, it was a possibility. I believe that this year he has important opportunities for the Ballon d’Or because he has won the Champions League and the European Championship,” said Santos.
Sarri was indeed a key figure in Jorginho’s career, having transformed into a midfield maestro at Napoli before bringing him to Stamford Bridge. But the Italian is apparently ready to move to any club in Serie A, posing questions on his long-term future at Stamford Bridge. Santos has even claimed that Inter, Juventus and Milan are all potential destinations, should the midfielder return to Italy.
“I always see Juve and Inter as favourites, then there’s Milan. The most important thing is that Serie A has now regained its competitiveness,” he added.
However, Santos did iterate that Jorginho’s current contract at Chelsea does not expire until 2023, though insisting the player’s future could be sealed elsewhere soon enough. “He has a contract with Chelsea until 2023, obviously it would always be a dream for him to return to Italy, perhaps after winning the World Cup. We need to see in two years what the market will be like and what the situation will be like”, said the agent.
It is no secret that Tuchel is consistently eyeing for reinforcements in the midfield department. But it remains to be seen whether that has any effect on the future of Jorginho, who is likely to be in action when the Blues welcome Aston Villa in their next game this coming weekend.
