Transfer News: Manchester City view Mikel Oyarzabal as Ferran Torres replacement

Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal as they prepare for life without Ferran Torres.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City have identified Mikel Oyarzabal as a potential target. The Real Sociedad attacker is thought to be highly rated by Pep Guardiola, who is keen on shoring up his options in the attacking department.

The report suggests Real Sociedad are already aware of Manchester City’s interest in their star player. It appears they are prepared to negotiate his potential exit as well, although the club is not willing to back down from their €75 million demands.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Oyarzabal comes in the aftermath of recent speculations surrounding the future of Ferran Torres. The former Valencia forward has reportedly agreed a move to Barcelona in the upcoming January transfer, with the deal likely facilitated for a fee of around €55 million.

Torres’s potential January exit could create a massive void in Manchester City’s attacking unit, especially at a time when the club is yet to sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero. The Citizens are regarded as the front-runners in the race to sign Dusan Vlahovic, but the move can only take place at the end of the season.

It has compelled the reigning English champions to set their sights on Oyarzabal. The Spanish international could be an identical replacement for Ferran Torres, as both the players are primarily known for their technical prowess in the final third.

Oyarzabal might not offer the same versatility as his Manchester City counterpart, especially when it comes to operating in the false nine slot. But with a tally of 73 goals and 46 assists in 258 competitive appearances for Real Sociedad, the winger has a pedigree at the highest level of football.

The 24-year-old has also won over 20 caps for the Spanish national team, scoring six goals, potentially making him an ideal target for the Premier League giants, despite his €75 million valuation.

However, it remains to be seen whether Real Sociedad will allow their star player to leave the club in the January transfer window. His contributions in the final third could be vital in helping the club compete for the top four and perform well in the UEFA Europa League. Not to mention, Manchester City could to face stiff competition from Real Madrid in the pursuit of the Spanish international, who has what it takes to become an asset under Guardiola.
