Chelsea are ready to offer Callum Hudson-Odoi in a swap deal for Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman, who is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester City.
According to a report from French publication L’Equipe, Chelsea are ready to step up their interest in Bayern Munich and France winger Kingsley Coman, who is also being monitored by Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Despite being just 25 years old, Coman is one of the most successful forwards in the game currently, having amassed a massive trophy haul that includes six Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, two Serie A titles with Juventus and two Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain as well as the UEFA Champions League he won with the Bavarians in 2019/20.
Even though he has had some injury issues during his stint with Bayern, Coman has been a valuable member of the team and was one of their best players last season, helping Die Roten to yet another league title. However, the Frenchman now finds himself staring at an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium due to a contract standoff.
Coman’s current deal with Bayern Munich runs out in 2023, with the club having proposed a new deal worth €13 million per season, which will be an improvement on his current €9 million-a-year deal. However, the 25-year-old is holding out for a pay packet of €18 million a year, similar to what teammate Leroy Sane makes.
Bayern, though, are unwilling to meet those demands and are prepared to sell in case the situation does not change, alerting a host of top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Liverpool’s interest in the 25-year-old stems from the lack of quality cover for their first-choice attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. While Diogo Jota did a good job in his debut season with the Reds last term, the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino warrant the addition of another wide player, making Coman a viable target.
As for Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola, who signed Coman at Bayern Munich, could be potentially looking at him as a replacement for Raheem Sterling, who has been linked with an exit this summer. There have been question marks over the futures of Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez as well, although the Premier League champions seem to be focusing on Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish as their top target.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have a number of options in the attacking positions in the form of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi while Timo Werner has also been used in a wider role at times by manager Thomas Tuchel. However, the German is said to be a huge admirer of Coman and wants to add him to the roster, potentially at the expense of one of his current players.
Indeed, as per the report, Tuchel does not see Hudson-Odoi as part of his plans for the coming season and, as a result, Chelsea are ready to offer the Englishman in a direct swap deal with Bayern, considering that Die Roten have tried to sign him on numerous occasions in the past. Whether the German champions find such an arrangement agreeable remains to be seen, considering that they value Coman at €90 million.
