Chelsea are reportedly set to wage battle with Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to sign Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, the race to sign Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window is intensifying. Chelsea are the latest entrants in pursuit of the 25-year-old English international, who is also being courted by Liverpool and Manchester City.
Grealish is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League, having played a pivotal role in Aston Villa’s ascent in recent years. His incredible progress has also helped him earn a spot in the English national side, and he is now set to play a role in England’s campaign at UEFA Euro 2020.
The recently-concluded club season proved to be somewhat difficult for Grealish, who suffered a knee injury that put him out of action for a few months. However, he still managed a superb tally of 7 goals and 12 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. Such numbers have captured the attention of the who’s who in the Premier League, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City interested.
Chelsea are the latest entrants in the race to sign Grealish, which is hardly surprising considering the uncertain future that Hakim Ziyech is facing at Stamford Bridge. If the Moroccan international does end up leaving, Chelsea would need a replacement in the creative department, which is where Grealish comes in.
As for Liverpool, Grealish could potentially play one of two roles in Jurgen Klopp’s side. The 25-year-old could either be a long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, seeing as he is adept at reprising the no. 8 role. Alternatively, he could provide competition to Sadio Mane on the left flank, following what was largely a season to forget for the Senegalese forward.

Meanwhile, Manchester City could be entering a period of transition, especially with Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling linked with a possible summer exit. To that end, Grealish a player who is capable of replacing any of the aforementioned stars, either in midfield or attack.
The report claims that despite being the latest to join the party, Chelsea could swoop ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City in pursuit of the English international. What now remains to be seen is if Grealish does indeed leave Aston Villa after years of widespread speculation linking him with just about every ‘Big Six’ club.
