Real Madrid have reportedly joined the chase for Frenkie De Jong and are ready to battle Barcelona and others to land the Ajax midfielder.
According to Spanish publication OK Diario, another top club has joined the ever-growing list of admirers of Frenkie De Jong. The midfielder was already a target for Tottenham, Barcelona and a few other European outfits. But, Real Madrid have entered the race and are ready to provide competition in pursuit of the Dutch international.
Frenkie De Jong is the latest name on everyone’s lips. The Dutch midfielder has had a brilliant start to his senior club career at Ajax, proving himself in midfield while acting as an able cover at central defence as well. There was a lot of speculation linking him with a summer move, with Barcelona tipped to secure his signature.
But, the 21-year-old maintained his stance that he will continue his development at Ajax, at least for another year. His performance has been rewarded with a senior call-up for Netherlands. On his senior international debut, Frenkie De Jong showed just why he is so highly regarded within the footballing fraternity.
De Jong provided an assist against Peru while his overall display against France was appreciated. The midfielder finds himself on the radar of not just Tottenham and Barcelona now, with Real Madrid also taking note of his rise.
Real Madrid did not bring in any star to replace Mateo Kovacic, who went the other way on a season-long loan in a deal that saw Thibaut Courtois arrive at the Bernabeu. With Florentino Perez looking to slowly phase out and replace the ageing Luka Modric in time, Frenkie De Jong has emerged as an option.
Madrid though, find competition in the form of Barcelona and Tottenham. The Catalans and their interest in De Jong is well documented, with the club reported to be looking to pursue the player in the summer of 2019, if not January.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have had a €50 million bid rejected for De Jong, according to reports. The rejected offer will aid the suitors in gauging what and how much Ajax are looking for in order to part with the 21-year-old.
It seems like there are more clubs that may enter the race for Frenkie De Jong and provide competition to Tottenham, Barcelona and Real Madrid. De Jong is shooting for the stars and so far, finding the basket with incredible accuracy.
