Spanish giants Real Madrid could make a summer move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer as they look to strengthen their midfield.
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Real Madrid are plotting a move for N’Golo Kante this summer, having been initially tracked by former head coach Zinedine Zidane. In fact, the Chelsea superstar has emerged as a top target for the European champions, who’ll look to upgrade their roster in the upcoming transfer window.
The 27-year-old is becoming a hot property this summer after Chelsea failed to qualify for the Champions League for the 2018-19 campaign. Kante was, in fact, one of Chelsea’s bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for the Blues last season.
His consistent performances kept Chelsea’s ship afloat as they managed to finish the season inside the top five, despite playing rather disappointingly throughout the course of the campaign. Since moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016, the Frenchman has emerged as a key figure in the West Londoners’ midfield.
He was also a critical figure in Leicester City’s surprising Premier League triumph in 2016, which initially earned him a big-money move to Chelsea. Throughout the last few years playing in the English top flight, Kante has gained significant experience at the highest level of football.
This has not only helped him seal a place in the French national side but also to transform himself into one of the best midfielders in the world. And the best players, as we all know, often seem to head to one direction – Real Madrid. Well, most of them anyway.
Real Madrid’s interest in Kante may not appear as a huge shock, considering the fact that Los Blancos have actually struggled to replace Luka Modric with their current set of talents. It is high time they look for an alternative in the market, especially with the Croat closing in on the final stage of his career.
Although Kante may not be a direct replacement for the more technically gifted Modric, the Chelsea midfielder certainly has some particular assets which can develop Real Madrid’s overall gameplay. Los Merengues primarily play with a three-man midfield with Casemiro playing in behind the two central midfielders in Toni Kroos and Modric.
Isco, on the other hand, adheres to the role of a flexible attacker, who can either shift out wide or get into the central areas of the pitch, depending on the situation. However, Kante’s addition to this midfield could potentially make Real Madrid much more lucid when it comes to defensive phases.
As we have come to notice in recent times, Casemiro, despite all his gifts in tackling and marking players, is prone to becoming fragile in dealing with clever quick-play around his zone. The Brazilian, however, could potentially form a formidable partnership with Kante in central midfield.
The latter is much more dynamic and sharp, making Real Madrid far more superior and complete in the midfield department next season. With Champions League football on offer as well, this could be a deal that will come to fruition this summer.
