Manchester United are reportedly showing interest in Celtic prodigy Kieran Tierney, who is also on the radar of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Daily Mirror are claiming that Manchester United are interested in Celtic youngster Kieran Tierney. The left-back has been attracting interest from Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea as well, and the Red Devils seem to have joined the long list of admirers.
Tierney is an Isle-of-Man-born left-back who has chosen to represent Scotland on the senior level, already earning two international caps for the Scottish national team. The 19-year-old has been making waves in Europe with his displays for Celtic in all competitions.
Tierney has recorded a return of seven assists in 19 games this season so far, a return that is exemplary for a marauding wide defender. The player is on the radar of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal with good reason.
Manchester City have ageing options at both sides of the defence, something that has seen Pep Guardiola linked with moves for Tottenham stars Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Ben Davies in recent times, as the Spaniard eyes long-term additions to the areas.
Arsenal have Nacho Monreal as the first-choice left-back in the squad. The Spaniard has performed admirably, but is already 30. Wenger is looking to add left-backs to the squad, especially with second-choice Kieran Gibbs failing to stamp his authority or replace Monreal in the starting eleven.
Chelsea signed Marcos Alonso for the left wing-back position but they have been linked with a further foray into the market for another option to add to their ranks, with the Blues set to compete for the title this season and looking set to compete in the Champions League in the 2017-18 campaign.
Manchester United is the only club among the three with a viable long-term left-back option in their squad in the form of Luke Shaw. But the English international has failed to impress Jose Mourinho, and is looking for a second chance to impress the Portuguese boss.
The Portuguese manager is looking at options in case the former Southampton man fails to do so. United have now started tracking Tierney, who signed a five-year deal at Celtic before the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
Celtic have the bargaining power, with Tierney’s deal set to run till 2021. The player is reportedly valued around the £10 million mark, but is likely to cost more than that in case any of the clubs move for the 19-year-old.
A summer move looks more likely though, as the clubs would like to see how Tierney performs after recovering from the two-month injury layoff that he has just returned from.
