Paris Saint-Germain have “urged” Alexis Sanchez to continue stalling on a new contract with Arsenal, according to reports.
According to the Mirror, The French giants have urged the Chilean superstar to continue his contract standoff with the Gunners, as they feel that they will be able to persuade Arsenal to sell in the summer given that Sanchez will only have a year remaining on his contract.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry accused both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil of “holding Arsenal hostage” last month while admitting they were vital to the future of the club, as the superstar duo continue to give Arsenal a hard time during their contract negotiations, both of which have been going on for a very long time now.
But according to the Mirror, PSG feel that, should the £60m-rated Sanchez fail to sign a new contract by the summer, they will be able to land him in a cut price deal as he will be out of contract the following year. They state that Patrick Kluivert – PSG’s director of football – is a huge fan of the Chilean forward.
They also report that Sanchez’s representatives have been “made aware” that PSG are hoping that the impasse in his contract negotiations continues till the end of the season as they plot a £60m move to bring the Chilean over to Parc des Princes in the summer.
Sanchez was infuriated earlier this week as Arsenal could only manage a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth. He was seen chastising teammate Aaron Ramsey and also threw his gloves to the floor in frustration as he stormed down the tunnel. Arsene Wenger has said that this is just down to his passion for the game, but this has not stopped speculation that it is a sign that he will move.
Sanchez himself told reporters last month that he wanted to stay at Arsenal, but that he wanted to win trophies and that it was up to the club to show confidence in him. Should Arsenal fail to win any major trophies again this season, it is likely he will grow increasingly frustrated and tempted to move to a club that can realistically challenge for major honours.
Arsenal have shown in the past that they are willing to let their star players go to rivals instead of losing them for free – as was the case with the shocking transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United. Despite this, Arsene Wenger has previously said that Sanchez and Ozil will not leave until the end of their contracts, even if it means Arsenal will have to lose them for free.
There is obviously interest in Sanchez from clubs all over the world with Chelsea said to also be closely monitoring the situation. And, the fact that Arsenal have seemingly hit a wall in his contract negotiations will be a huge worry to Gunners fans.
