Juventus are preparing to step up their interest in Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell.
A report by Italian outlet Calciomercato has claimed that the Serie A giants are ready to make an offer ahead of January. The 27-year-old is also attracting attention from Liverpool and Manchester United, giving Crystal Palace a potentially intriguing battle for his signature.
Mitchell has become an increasingly interesting option because of his contract situation and Premier League experience. Juventus, meanwhile, have a clear need to address at left-back.
Juventus eye Mitchell as a defensive solution
Andrea Cambiaso remains unavailable because of his ankle problem, while Juan Cabal has fallen out of Luciano Spalletti’s plans. That leaves Juventus looking for another option on the left, and Mitchell’s ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch has reportedly caught the attention of sporting chiefs Giovanni Manna and Damien Comolli.
The Crystal Palace defender offers something Juventus currently lack like experience, athleticism and familiarity with a demanding league environment. Mitchell has made more than 200 league appearances for the South London club and has also represented England.
The Englishman’s defensive reliability is complemented by his willingness to push forward, making him capable of operating as either a conventional full-back or a more aggressive wing-back. Juventus are therefore considering whether to move early rather than allow Premier League competition to develop.
Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the fray
Liverpool could provide the most serious competition, as the Reds remain interested in Mitchell as they assess their options at left-back, with Milos Kerkez yet to consistently stand out since arriving at Anfield. Adding another proven Premier League option could therefore become attractive, particularly if Liverpool decide they need greater competition and reliability in the position.
Meanwhile, Luke Shaw’s current contract at Manchester United runs until 2027, and the Red Devils have to consider succession planning even if they retain the England international beyond his present agreement. Mitchell’s Premier League experience would make him a relatively straightforward option to integrate, particularly if United want competition rather than another developmental project.
That leaves Crystal Palace in a strong position if all three clubs eventually make concrete approaches. Mitchell is an interesting target for Juventus because this is less about signing a glamorous name and more about solving an obvious squad problem.
His game should translate reasonably well to Serie A as he has the pace to recover defensively, the physicality to handle 1v1 situations and enough attacking ability to operate higher up the flank. The bigger question is whether Juventus can move quickly enough.
Liverpool have a legitimate reason to revisit the position if Kerkez does not raise his performances, while Manchester United cannot ignore the longer-term situation surrounding Shaw. Juventus may therefore be right to push early. If they wait until January and all three clubs arrive with concrete plans, Mitchell’s value and the competition for him could increase significantly.
