Celta Vigo are interested in bringing Stefan Bajcetic back to Spain, but the Galician club have made one major condition clear before they will proceed with a deal.
According to Faro de Vigo via Sport Witness, Celta are willing to take the 21-year-old back to Vigo only if he first terminates the final year of his Liverpool contract and arrives on a free transfer.
The midfielder is understood to be outside Andoni Iraola’s plans at Anfield after a prolonged spell disrupted by injury, leaving Liverpool open to finding a solution before the transfer window closes.
Celta want Bajcetic on a free transfer
Bajcetic is reportedly closer than ever to returning to the club where he spent part of his youth career before joining Liverpool. However, Celta are not immediately planning to place him in their senior side.
Their proposal would initially see Bajcetic join Celta Fortuna, the club’s reserve team, where he could rebuild his fitness and rhythm in competitive football before attempting to earn a place in the first-team squad. At 21, he would still be eligible to move between the two teams, giving Celta flexibility as they manage his return.
The club have also made clear that there would be no guarantee of first-team football. Bajcetic would have to prove his fitness and form before earning promotion into the senior setup.
Injuries have stalled Liverpool career
Bajcetic’s development has been badly disrupted over the last 18 months. A serious injury kept him sidelined for an extended period, while subsequent muscular problems have further delayed his return and prevented him from featuring for Liverpool.
That has left the midfielder struggling to regain the momentum he showed when first breaking into the Reds’ senior side. Celta believe returning to familiar surroundings could provide him with the controlled environment required to rebuild both physically and competitively. The remaining obstacle is his Liverpool contract. Celta have no intention of paying a transfer fee and want Bajcetic to secure his release before completing the move.
For Bajcetic, this could be less about taking a step backwards and more about restarting a career that has lost valuable time to injuries. Celta’s conditions are tough but understandable. They are offering him a pathway back to senior football without assuming significant financial risk.
If Liverpool are prepared to release him and Bajcetic accepts that he must earn his way back through Celta Fortuna, returning home could provide exactly the reset he needs.
