Manchester United ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool in Mateus Mane race

Manchester United are seemingly ahead in the race for Mateus Mane, with Liverpool and Arsenal also in the mix for the Wolves teenager.

Wolves could face the repercussion of relegation by losing some of their notable stars, including Mateus Mane. As per Sports Boom, Manchester United are reportedly leading the race for the talented teenager, with Arsenal and Liverpool also in the mix for the versatile attacker.

Wolves are set to call time on their eight-year spell in the Premier League as their relegation was confirmed after West Ham drew with Crystal Palace on Monday. Heading into the Championship, they will face a shortage in revenue as they are bound to lose the massive money from TV rights.

The priority for Wolves is getting back up into the Premier League within one season in the Championship, for which they must strengthen their squad. There are a few players who could fetch decent sums, but their prized asset is teenager Mateus Mane.

Wolves had initially planned talks with Mane in a bid to keep hold of the player, but the finances will dictate a sale, while the teenager will also endure a massive pay cut in the Championship. Given the sizeable interest in him, there is a strong chance he leaves Wolves in the summer, as Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in the mix.

Wolves had reportedly wanted £50 million to sell the teenager, although Manchester United and Liverpool are not prepared to pay as much. The same could be said about Arsenal, as the relegated side might accept in the region of £30 million, as per the report.

Manchester United leading the race for Mane?

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race for Mane as they have reportedly planned a clear pathway for him in their squad. Given his ability to play on the wings and as an attacking midfielder, the Red Devils could view him as their wide attacking signing and offer him a rotational role in the first team.

Arsenal are also big admirers, but there may not be a defined role in how Mikel Arteta would want to use the 18-year-old Premier League sensation. The same could be said about Liverpool, who have the prodigious Rio Ngumoha and the rather expensive Florian Wirtz in the roles that Mane can effectively occupy, which does hand the initiative to Manchester United ahead of the summer.
