Manchester City may look to sign 19-year-old Dutch right-back Givairo Read from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window.
A report by Sky Sports has revealed that Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the upcoming transfer window.
However, while the Citizens are closely monitoring the Dutchman’s progress at Feyenoord, they face stiff competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign the teenage prospect from the Eredivisie club in the coming months.
Who is Givairo Read?
Givairo Read is the latest promising prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Amsterdam, the youngster has spent his formative years thus far in the Netherlands, starting his youth career with Zeeburgia and spending half a decade with FC Volendam before graduating from the youth division at Feyenoord.
The 19-year-old made his senior bow for Feyenoord in February 2024, and he has not looked back since then. Read has made 50 appearances thus far for the Eredivisie outfit, chipping in with four goals and 11 assists. Meanwhile, the Dutch full-back’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
A man in demand
Manchester City’s interest in Givairo Read is understandable. Rico Lewis is the only recognised right-back in Pep Guardiola’s squad, but the young Englishman has not been able to establish a foothold in the senior setup. Instead, Pep Guardiola has used Matheus Nunes as a right-back for most of the 2025/26 season, with the Portuguese international being impressive in the role. So, Manchester City can do with a right-back, with Read emerging as a viable target.
As for Bayern Munich, Sacha Boey has no future at the Allianz Arena after joining Galatasaray on loan earlier this year. So, with Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic playing as makeshift right-backs this season, Bayern Munich must dip into the market to reinforce the position.
Meanwhile, the report has suggested that while “City are not assured to sign a new right-back before next season, the position has been under consideration to strengthen for some time”. So, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League heavyweights firm up their interest in the 19-year-old Dutch right-back prodigy.
