Manchester City relaxed on Rodri future amid Real Madrid links

Manchester City reportedly remain optimistic that Rodri will pen a new deal at the Etihad despite interest from Real Madrid.

Rodri’s future has been a massive talking point for most of the season. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has been extensively linked with a move to Real Madrid. During the international break, the Spanish international added fuel to the fire by saying that no player could turn down the Spanish giants.

Despite that, Manchester City are in a relatively comfortable position regarding his future. According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Premier League giants remain hopeful that their midfield mainstay will soon pen a new deal and snub Los Blancos in the process, as talks with his camp have intensified of late.

Rodri’s rise to the top

Rodri has gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the world since joining City from Atletico Madrid back in 2018. The Ballon d’Or winner might have struggled over the last few seasons because of injury, but he seems to be back at his best in recent weeks.

Pep Guardiola considers the Spaniard an integral part of their plans moving forward, and while he will only have a year left on his deal in the summer, City are not worried about his future. They have already started working on a potential renewal. The Manchester-based giants have intensified their efforts to tie him down to a new deal.

Real Madrid are quite keen on his signature, as they look for a leader in the centre of the park. While they do have a lot of quality, they want someone who can control the tempo and dictate the pace of the game. Rodri, with his brilliant positioning and ball distribution, could literally run the show for the team in white.

A new deal for Rodri at Manchester City

Real Madrid are believed to be ready to pounce on an opportunity to sign him. Despite the Spanish club’s interest in his signature, City remain confident about extending his stay at the club.

While talking about Rodri’s future, O’Rourke said, “Rodri, away on international duty with Spain, did leave the door open for a potential move to Real Madrid, saying that no player could turn down a move to the Spanish giants.

“Look, I think City are quite comfortable with the situation right now. He’s got a year to run his current contract. They have offered him a new deal. Talks are ongoing over trying to sort that out and tie him down to a new contract.”

While handing him a new deal will have a big impact on their finances, Manchester City believe it would be worth it given the quality of the player. The fans were not pleased with his recent comments, but the club still remains keen on reaching an agreement with the 29-year-old.
