Manchester United are all set to face stiff competition from Aston Villa and Chelsea in their pursuit of Mateus Fernandes.
According to a report from Apito Final, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all keen on acquiring the services of Mateus Fernandes, as they look to add more quality to their midfield. However, securing his services won’t be easy, as West Ham United have no intentions of negotiating his departure.
Fernandes came up the ranks at Sporting CP. Following an impressive rise, Southampton secured his services in the summer of 2024. The youngster enjoyed an impressive campaign for the Saints, and on the back of it, West Ham United forked out over £40 million to sign the 21-year-old.
The promising playmaker has gone from strength to strength since joining the Hammers. In the ongoing campaign, the Portuguese international has featured in 31 matches for the London club and has even contributed towards seven goals.
While Mateus Fernandes prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is capable enough to take up any role in the centre of the park. The youngster’s performances have placed him on the radar of a number of clubs.
Premier League trio are after Fernandes
Manchester United are one of the clubs that are keen on signing Mateus Fernandes. The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on him for some time. The Red Devils are set to undergo a midfield revamp in the summer, with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to be sold.
They could end up making multiple midfield signings, and Fernandes is certainly a part of their shortlist. His versatility and massive potential make him a perfect fit for their project. But they are set to face competition from Aston Villa and Chelsea.
While the Blues already have a stacked midfield, Romeo Lavia has struggled with injuries, and the 21-year-old could be a perfect replacement. The West Ham midfielder certainly fits their project, which revolves around signing the best young players.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery wants more quality in the centre of the park, and he loves working with versatile players, making Fernandes an ideal fit for his squad. While some of the biggest clubs are after the youngster, West Ham do not seem concerned about his future.
They are not even considering negotiating his transfer, and with a deal running until 2030, they are in complete control over his future. An interested club will have to offer in excess of £50 million to get him out of the London club. Not only will the negotiations be difficult, but it will also be very expensive. Even relegation won’t have an effect on his future.
