Manchester City want Denzel Dumfries, player offered to Premier League clubs

Manchester City are ready to enter the race for Denzel Dumfries, with a host of their Premier League rivals also in the mix.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City are ready to plot a move for Denzel Dumfries, who could be available for a ‘bargain’ price ahead of the summer. The Inter Milan star has a £21 million release clause that has attracted other Premier League sides, including Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Denzel Dumfries has been an instrumental player for Inter Milan, particularly given their style of play. Featuring predominantly as a wing-back on the right-hand side, the Dutchman has excelled and produced some memorable performances during his club’s successes over the years.

With his contract expiring in 2028, Inter Milan still holds the power in determining his future. However, they are wary of the growing interest in the Dutchman owing to the ‘bargain’ £21 million release clause in his contract. The Nerazzurri are actively in talks with the player and his representatives over a new deal that would remove the said clause, but Premier League interest could change the direction of travel.

Dumfries’ representatives are actively exploring alternatives should they be unable to agree on a new deal with Inter Milan, with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly being offered the Dutchman’s services, as per Team Talk. The three clubs are in the market for a new right-back amid links to Ben White following recent rumours, among others.

Liverpool certainly retains an interest in Dumfries, whilst Chelsea could also look at adding a new right-back with plenty of experience in the window. Manchester United could evaluate their own situation in the position, and will be interested in the £21 million-rated Serie A wing-back, given the price at which he is available.

Manchester City to make a Denzel Dumfries move?

Manchester City are the latest to enter the race for Dumfries, although they did hold an interest in the Dutchman previously. Pep Guardiola is seeking a specialist right-back ahead of the summer, having used midfielder Matheus Nunes in the role to good effect. Moreover, the club could part ways with Rico Lewis, who has been largely ineffective and has barely featured for the side.

A move for Dumfries would signal the need for an experienced player in the role — one who would immediately improve the team in a meaningful way. Dumfries may be in talks with Inter Milan over a new deal, but the interest from England could turn his head, given that this might be one of his last big opportunities to play in the Premier League and secure a significant move.
