Barcelona sporting director Deco will aim to sign 27-year-old Egyptian international Omar Marmoush from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, versatile Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a forward in the coming months amid uncertainties surrounding Robert Lewandowski’s long-term future.
With the veteran Polish striker entering the final few months of his contract with Barcelona, the Catalan giants need a long-term replacement. So, Deco has identified Marmoush as a target, with Barcelona’s sporting director prioritising the Manchester City striker as Lewandowski’s successor.
How has Omar Marmoush fared at Manchester City?
Omar Marmoush has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth €70 million in January 2025. While the 27-year-old hit the ground running and was a rare bright spot for City in the second half of the 2024/25 season, he has struggled for regular game time this term.
Marmoush has dropped in the pecking order this season, managing only 1,138 minutes of game time in 29 appearances across all competitions thus far, chipping in six goals and three assists. Nevertheless, the Egyptian attacker’s stock remains high, with Barcelona among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Omar Marmoush is understandable. The defending La Liga champions are scouring the market for a versatile attacker, as Robert Lewandowski has entered the final few months of his contract. Additionally, the Pole is in the twilight of his career, and Barcelona must plan for life after him.
While several candidates, including Christian Kofane, have emerged on Barcelona’s wishlist, Marmoush is also a viable target. The Manchester City attacker’s versatility should add to his appeal, as he can play across the offensive unit. Additionally, he showed during his spell with Eintracht Frankfurt that he can be a prolific striker.
However, Manchester City’s asking price may pose a problem for Barcelona if the Catalan giants push for a summer move, although the report does not mention a valuation. The 27-year-old Egyptian international is at the peak of his powers, and he has more than three years left on his deal.
