Bayern Munich rule out summer move for Phil Foden

Manchester City attacker Phil Foden has been heavily linked with a summer move away from the Premier League club.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been mentioned as a potential destination for Phil Foden, but the Bavarian outfit has now ruled out a potential move for the 25-year-old England international. There have been rumours that the player will join a foreign club in the summer.

According to a report from Christian Falk for German outlet Sport BILD, manager Vincent Kompany is a fan of the 25-year-old England international, and there is interest in the player. However, his asking price is likely to be around €80 million, and the German giants simply do not have that kind of budget available for an attacking player. Instead, they will look to bring in a backup option to Luis Diaz.

Bayern Munich cannot afford Phil Foden

Christian Falk said, “Phil Foden is a name that would immediately make the hearts of Bayern fans beat faster. However, the fact is that FC Bayern is not looking for a player of his calibre. His market value of 80 million euros is far above the budget that sporting director Max Eberl has available for an attacking player.”

“The club only wants a backup for Luis Diaz on the left wing and not a player with aspirations of being a regular starter. All of Foden’s other positions are also filled by top-class players at Bayern. In the centre, they just extended Gnabry’s contract, who is currently filling in for Musiala. On the right, Bayern has Michael Olise, perhaps the best winger in Europe right now. And then there’s Lennart Karl, who has a bright future in Munich. Therefore, Foden is currently not an issue for Bayern.”

Foden exit makes no sense

Foden is a promising player with a bright future, and there is no doubt that he would be an excellent addition for most teams. However, Manchester City are unlikely to sanction his departure easily. The Manchester City academy graduate is a key player for the club, and losing him would weaken their attacking unit.

Manchester City are looking to build a team capable of winning major trophies, and they simply cannot afford to sell a quality player like him. Also, the England international has no reason to leave the Premier League right now despite the recent exit links.

The 25-year-old is pushing for major trophies with Manchester City regularly, and he will want to continue winning league titles and the UEFA Champions League. Manchester City are hoping to agree on a new contract with Foden.

There is no doubt that Bayern Munich are one of the best clubs in the world, and the opportunity to play for them can be quite attractive, but Foden is already competing at the highest level with an elite club.
