Atletico Madrid dreaming of Marc Cucurella move, deal unlikely

Atletico Madrid are reportedly dreaming about signing Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella this summer, but the deal looks very unlikely.

According to AS via Sport Witness, Atletico Madrid are on the lookout for a new left-back, and they have their eyes set on Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. The Spanish international is a dream target for Diego Simeone’s team, but they are unlikely to get their hands on him, as the Blues consider him untouchable.

Cucurella came up the ranks at Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia. While he got promoted to the Catalan club’s first team, the 27-year-old only made one first-team appearance. He spent the majority of his time out on loan before parting ways to join Getafe.

He then made the move to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2021. On the back of his impressive performances for the Seagulls, Chelsea forked out a massive €65 million to sign him a year later. While he did struggle in the initial phase, the Spaniard eventually managed to establish himself as a key figure in their team.

The 27-year-old is the go-to man for the Blues on the left flank. Cucurella has been involved in 41 matches this term, has racked up over 3,000 minutes and has even contributed towards four goals. Despite his importance in their setup, his future has been a massive talking point, and he added fuel to the fire with a recent interview.

Atletico Madrid want Cucurella

Marc Cucurella suggested that he is open to a return to Spain, where Atletico Madrid are keen on signing the former Barcelona man. While the Colchoneros did add Matteo Ruggeri to their squad last summer, they are not entirely pleased with his performances.

As a result, the Madrid-based outfit are looking for another left-back. The Chelsea defender has been on their radar since his Barcelona days. They have been following him closely, and he is considered a dream target for the club.

With Apollo Sports Capital becoming the majority shareholder of the Spanish club, they do have the finances to get a deal over the line. However, Los Rojiblancos will still struggle to secure the 27-year-old’s services.

Chelsea consider him an integral part of their plans moving ahead, and Liam Rosenior’s side have already made it clear to Barcelona that he is not for sale. While the Blues are in the market for a new left-back, they still have no intentions of selling Cucurella.
