Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez has been linked with a summer move away from the Premier League club.
Real Madrid have been interested in signing Rodri, but the latest update has revealed that the Spanish giants are not sure about making the move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid value the 29-year-old, but they are unsure about his fitness reliability. The 29-year-old has not been at his best since his return from ACL damage.
Real Madrid is worried about Rodri’s fitness
While there is no doubt that the Spaniard is a world-class player in his position and Real Madrid need reinforcement in that area of the pitch, they need to sign someone with proper availability. They cannot afford to sign a player with quality who is struggling with fitness issues.
Real Madrid have Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni at their disposal, and they, too, have had some issues in recent seasons. Additionally, Camavinga has struggled for regular game time, and Real Madrid could use an upgrade on him.
The 23-year-old has played just over 1,100 minutes in the league this season. He needs more opportunities at this stage of his career, but Real Madrid clearly do not trust him enough to start him regularly. It would be ideal for all parties to secure a replacement and move on.
Rodri would be a much-needed addition at his best
Rodri would certainly be an excellent addition. The Spanish international has consistently shown his quality with Manchester City, and he won the Ballon d’Or in 2024. He has proven himself in La Liga with Atletico Madrid. There is no doubt he would hit the ground running at Real Madrid.
However, he will need to prove his fitness levels before he can secure a big move to his homeland. Tchouameni has done reasonably well for Real Madrid, but he needs more experience alongside him. Real Madrid need someone who can control the tempo of the game from the deep.
The French international has done well at breaking up the opposition’s play, but he is not an expert at controlling the game. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks. Manchester City are struggling in the middle of the park, and they cannot afford to lose one of their best players in the summer. They will be desperate to keep Rodri at the club. That said, they are looking at players like Adam Wharton as potential replacements.
