Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old English international Lewis Hall from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Newcastle United mainstay Lewis Hall is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the upcoming transfer window.
The latest report has revealed that Barcelona’s coaching staff “were impressed with his performances” during the meetings with Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League this term. Meanwhile, the Tyneside outfit will demand around €30 million to part ways with the Englishman.
Lewis Hall and his promising Newcastle United stint so far
Lewis Hall has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United from Chelsea. Born in Slough, the 21-year-old graduated from the fabled academy at Chelsea after spending over a decade with the West London outfit. However, he has risen in prominence during his spell with Newcastle United.
Hall has been a mainstay at the back for the Tyneside outfit in the last two and a half years, making nearly 100 appearances thus far while chipping in with three goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, the English international’s progress has stimulated the interest of several high-profile clubs, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
Will Hall move to La Liga soon?
Barcelona’s interest in Lewis Hall makes sense. While Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin have been impressive during their outings in the left-back berth, recent reports have linked the former with a move away from Spotify Camp Nou, with several high-profile Premier League clubs keen on signing him.
Even if Balde remains at Spotify Camp Nou, signing a left-back would make sense, as Martin has been transitioning into the centre-back role this season. Hall has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, and the 21-year-old Englishman’s solidity at the back makes him an appealing target.
However, the price tag suggested by the report is suspicious, if not laughable, as a player like Hall will never cost €30 million in today’s market. Nevertheless, a summer deal will unlikely materialise, as widespread reports have suggested that Newcastle United will not entertain offers for the English international this summer.
