Chelsea uninterested in selling Josh Acheampong this summer

Chelsea will not entertain any offers for 19-year-old English youth international Josh Acheampong in the summer transfer window amid his links with Premier League clubs.

According to a report by Football Insider, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are interested in 19-year-old Chelsea defensive prospect Josh Acheampong. The two Premier League clubs are keen on bolstering their defensive units by signing a versatile defender in the coming months.

However, a deal for the Englishman may not materialise, as the Blues “have no interest in sanctioning a sale” this summer. Acheampong remains “very highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge, and the club hierarchy are intending to try and push him towards becoming a regular” in the coming seasons.

Who is Josh Acheampong?

Josh Acheampong has established himself as one of the most eye-catching defensive prospects in the Premier League since graduating from Chelsea’s fabled academy. The 19-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough in the senior squad in the 2024/25 season, and he has become an asset for the West London club due to his ability to play across the backline.

The English youth international has risen in stature this season, amassing over 1,000 minutes of game time in 24 appearances across all competitions, impressing as a right-back and a centre-back. Meanwhile, Acheampong’s progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Crystal Palace and Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Josh Acheampong has been on Crystal Palace’s radar for several months. The continued interest is understandable, as Marc Guehi’s move to Manchester City has left a gaping hole in the central defensive unit at the South London club. So, Crystal Palace will prioritise signing a young centre-back who can grow like Guehi in recent years, and Acheampong has emerged as a viable target.

As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back and a right-back. With Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, and Kieran Trippier on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of their careers, the Tyneside outfit must reinforce both positions. So, Acheampong is an appealing option for Newcastle United, as he can be a one-stop solution for the two spots.

However, while Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have set their sights on the 19-year-old Englishman, Chelsea will not entertain offers for him this summer. With the Blues planning for their long-term future with the teenage prospect in mind, it will be surprising to see him leave for a new club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
