Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Dutch defender Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Micky van de Ven is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The defending La Liga champions are eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing a centre-back this summer. While Alessandro Bastoni is the top target for the Blaugrana, they have kept their options open for the upcoming window.
The latest report has revealed that the Catalan giants have already initiated their move to sign the Dutchman, and they have “made an approach to find out his willingness for a transfer while making it clear that he isn’t the priority target” for the summer. Meanwhile, van de Ven is ready to leave Tottenham, and he “is waiting” for Barcelona, hoping to move to Catalonia this year.
How has Micky van de Ven fared at Tottenham?
Micky van de Ven has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Tottenham Hotspur from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023. Born in Wormer, the 24-year-old spent his formative years in the Netherlands, starting his youth career at WSV ’30 Wormer before graduating from the youth division at FC Volendam. However, he rose in prominence during his spell in the Bundesliga.
The Dutch defender has made nearly 100 appearances for Tottenham thus far while chipping in with ten goals and three assists. While van de Ven has not been at his best this season, his stock remains high. Barcelona will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature ahead of the 2026/27 season.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Micky van de Ven makes sense. While Gerard Martin has been a revelation as a centre-back this season, the Catalan giants want a recognised left-footed centre-back to become Pau Cubarsi’s long-term partner at the heart of the defence. Additionally, Andreas Christensen faces an uncertain future at the club, and a departure as a free agent is on the cards.
Several candidates, including Alessandro Bastoni, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s wishlist, with van de Ven also a viable target. While the Inter Milan centre-back is the Catalan club’s top centre-back target, they are also looking at other targets if the Italian international is not attainable.
With that in mind, the reigning La Liga champions have submitted an enquiry, hoping to secure van de Ven’s services if they fail to sign Bastoni. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Dutchman is ready to call time on his spell with Tottenham, and he will hope to become Barcelona’s top centre-back target in the coming months.
