Aston Villa have ace up their sleeves in Marcos Senesi chase

Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a central defender in the coming months, and they have an ace up their sleeves in the battle for the 28-year-old’s signature.

Meanwhile, the South American defender is also a target for Juventus. However, Aston Villa will hope to land Senesi, as they are “offering significantly higher salary and bonuses” to the Bournemouth defender, thus swinging the race in their favour.

How has Marcos Senesi fared at Bournemouth?

Marcos Senesi has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League since joining Bournemouth from Feyenoord in August 2022. The Concordia native rose in prominence after arriving in Europe, enjoying an excellent spell with the Eredivisie outfit before moving to England nearly four years ago.

The Argentine international has forged a solid central defensive partnership with several players during his spell with Bournemouth, yet retaining consistency at the heart of the defence, Senesi has made over 100 appearances for Bournemouth thus far, chipping in with six goals and nine assists. However, he faces an uncertain future after entering the final six months of his contract, and the situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Aston Villa and Juventus.

A man in demand

Aston Villa’s interest in Marcos Senesi makes sense. Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. Additionally, recent reports have claimed that the West Midlands outfit may cash in on the veteran centre-back this summer. So, Senesi has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, as he can be a like-for-like replacement for Mings.

As for Juventus, the Bianconeri will dip into the market for a centre-back ahead of the 2026/27 season, as Luciano Spalletti wants more quality for his team’s central defensive unit. Additionally, Federico Gatti faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium amid his links with Premier League clubs. So, Senesi is an option worth considering for Juventus.

However, Aston Villa may blow the competition out of the water, as they are ready to offer higher wages and bonuses to the 28-year-old Argentine international compared to Juventus. The West Midlands outfit will now hope that it is enough to turn Senesi’s head instead of opting for the prestige of playing for a historic club like Juventus.
