Aston Villa begin talks to seal permanent move for Jadon Sancho

Aston Villa will reportedly aim to sign 26-year-old Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Jadon Sancho has compelled Aston Villa to seek a permanent move heading into the upcoming transfer window. Unai Emery is the driving force behind the West Midlands club’s desire to complete a Bosman deal for the 25-year-old Manchester United flop.

Emery has “made it clear to the president of football operations, Robert Olabe, that securing Sancho on a permanent basis” this summer. So, while Aston Villa will face stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund for the Englishman’s signature, they will hope to land him for free once his Manchester United contract expires.

How has Jadon Sancho fared in his latest Manchester United loan exit?

Jadon Sancho has been one of the worst signings in Manchester United’s storied history, as he has barely made his mark since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. Additionally, his conduct off the pitch has added to the woes, with a run-in with Erik ten Hag two years ago sealing his fate at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has not played for Manchester United since then, although he has yet to complete a permanent exit, spending the last two years away on loan.

The English international has shown flashes of brilliance during his loan stint with Aston Villa, but he has managed only one goal and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions thus far. Nevertheless, Sancho has compelled Aston Villa to seek a Bosman move ahead of the 2026/27 season.

What next?

Aston Villa’s desire to complete a permanent move for Jadon Sancho is surprising. The West Midlands outfit will hope the former Borussia Dortmund attacker can settle down and rediscover his best touch. Additionally, the 26-year-old Englishman’s impending free-agent status makes him an appealing target for Aston Villa.

However, Sancho has never hit the heights of his spell with Borussia Dortmund in the last half a decade, and he may never become an asset for a Premier League club. Instead, Aston Villa should focus on signing some other target, like Pedro Goncalves, who will bolster the creativity and taken some load off Morgan Rogers.

Nevertheless, Unai Emery is pushing Aston Villa to complete a Bosman move for Sancho, and he will hope to keep the English attacker at Villa Park beyond the 2025/26 season. However, it will not be surprising if the possibility to return to his old stomping grounds tugs at Sancho’s heart strings and takes him back to Borussia Dortmund.
