Intermediaries have reportedly offered Manchester United and Liverpool the opportunity to sign 25-year-old Canadian international Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich this year.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Liverpool and Manchester United will have the chance to sign Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies in the coming months. Intermediaries are “actively sounding out potential interest and holding talks” with several Premier League clubs.
While the Buduburam native recently signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, his situation is “coming under increasing scrutiny” heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Real Madrid “have also been alerted” for a move, but the most significant groundwork has come among the Premier League clubs.
How has Alphonso Davies fared at Bayern Munich?
Alphonso Davies has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. While the 25-year-old arrived at the Allianz Arena as a promising winger, he has evolved into a top-class left-back during his spell with the Bavarian outfit.
However, the Canadian international has struggled with fitness issues in the last 18 months, and he has managed only 526 minutes of game time in 13 appearances this term. However, Davies remains sought-after in the market, while intermediaries have offered him to Liverpool and Manchester United, among others.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Recent reports have suggested that Alphonso Davies is a target for Manchester United. So, the latest update is good news for the Red Devils, as they are scouring the market for a left-back due to Luke Shaw’s advancing age. Additionally, the English international may not have the fitness to compete on four fronts in a long and arduous campaign. So, with Patrick Dorgu possibly transitioning into the role of a winger, Davies is an option worth considering.
As for Liverpool, Andrew Robertson faces an uncertain future at Anfield after entering the final six months of his contract. Additionally, Milos Kerkez has been inconsistent in his debut season with the Merseyside club. So, Liverpool should dip into the market for a left-back, as having two top-class options for every position has become a prerequisite in the modern game.
Meanwhile, Davies has also been a historical target for Real Madrid, and Los Blancos may attempt to take advantage of the latest update. However, with intermediaries primarily focusing on a Premier League move, Liverpool and Manchester United will fancy their prospects if the 25-year-old Canadian international pushes to leave Bayern Munich this summer.
