Borussia Dortmund will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old English youth international Archie Gray from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Archie Gray is the subject of interest of Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window. However, the Black and Yellows will face stiff competition for the 20-year-old Tottenham prodigy’s signature, as Chelsea and Manchester United are also vying for his signature.
How has Archie Gray fared at Tottenham so far?
Archie Gray has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds United in a deal worth £40 million in July 2024. While the Lilywhites have been dreadful during his spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Englishman has been a rare bright spot for the North London club.
The 20-year-old has not been an undisputed first-choice starter during his spell with Tottenham, but he has been impressive in his sporadic appearances. Gray has made over 50 appearances for the North London club thus far while chipping in with two goals and three assists. Meanwhile, the English youth international’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
Borussia Dortmund will dip into the market for a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window, as Pascal Gross rejoined Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this year. Additionally, Marcel Sabitzer is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the wrong side of 30. So, pursuing Gray will allow the Bundesliga giants to ensure a smooth succession to the next generation in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, Manchester United mulled over signing Archie Gray before he joined Tottenham, but a deal did not materialise. The continued interest makes sense, as Casemiro will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent after the 2025/26 season. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has been dreadful during his spell with Manchester United. So, the versatile Tottenham prodigy can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park, forging a solid partnership alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
As for Chelsea, the Blues are worried about Enzo Fernandez’s long-term future after his recent comments, with Real Madrid reportedly hoping to capitalise on the situation. Additionally, Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo have struggled with fitness issues this season. So, Chelsea must sign a new midfielder this summer, with Gray emerging as a viable target.
The latest report has provided an update on Borussia Dortmund’s stance, with the Bundesliga giants confident about their prospects of landing the 20-year-old Englishman. Tottenham’s relegation battle in the Premier League adds a layer of intrigue to this story, as the youngster may be available for only £45-50 million if they do not remain in the top flight.
