Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 18-year-old Senegalese international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Sky Sports journalists Amar Mehta and Lyall Thomas, Ibrahim Mbaye is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile wide attacker in the summer transfer window.
However, the Premier League high-flyers are not alone in the battle for the French-born winger’s signature, as “several Premier League clubs” are also vying for his services. Meanwhile, while Aston Villa will face stiff competition for Mbaye, securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League will be a crucial factor in his decision about his next destination.
Who is Ibrahim Mbaye?
Ibrahim Mbaye has had to bide his time since breaking into the first-team squad at Paris Saint-Germain. Born in Trappes, the teenage prospect passed through the academies at ES Guyancourt and FC Versailles 78 before graduating from the youth division at PSG. The 18-year-old made his senior bow in August 2024 at the age of 16 and then became the youngest player to start a game for Les Parisiens.
However, the Senegalese international has been a backup player for PSG this season, managing only 992 minutes of game time across 25 appearances thus far and chipping in with one goal and two assists. Nevertheless, Mbaye’s stock is high, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this summer.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Ibrahim Mbaye is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window, as Unai Emery wants more firepower in the final third. While Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Buendia, Jadon Sancho, and Leon Bailey have played on the flanks for Aston Villa this season, they need a recognised option for the flanks.
While Rogers and Buendia are primarily central attacking midfielders, Sancho will not be at Villa Park beyond the 2025/26 season, as he is in talks to rejoin Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, Bailey’s long-term future is uncertain after Aston Villa loaned him to AS Roma last summer.
So, Mbaye is a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit pushing to secure a deal in the coming months. However, the Villans will face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for his signature, and recent reports have linked the 18-year-old PSG wonderkid with Chelsea and Liverpool.
