Arsenal will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Brazilian international Wesley Franca from AS Roma to replace Ben White in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Wesley Franca is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old AS full-back has emerged as a target for the North London club, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also vying for his signature.
How has Wesley Franca fared in Serie A?
Wesley Franca has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining AS Roma from Flamengo in a deal worth €25 million last summer. Born in Acailandia, the 22-year-old full-back spent his formative years in Brazil, starting his youth career at Atletico Tubarao before graduating from the fabled academy at Flamengo.
The youngster rose in prominence during his spell with Flamengo before AS Roma won the battle for his signature. The Brazilian has been exceptional this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 35 outings across all competitions for the Serie A giants. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
A man in demand
Arsenal will dip into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window, as Ben White faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. The latest report has revealed that the Gunners are ready to cash in on the English international this summer. So, they are scouring the market for a right-back, with the AS Roma star emerging as a viable target.
Meanwhile, Manchester City wanted to sign Wesley Franca in the summer transfer window before AS Roma won the battle for his signature. The continued interest makes sense, as Rico Lewis has yet to win over Pep Guardiola and become the undisputed first-choice right-back. So, Guardiola has used Matheus Nunes, a midfielder, as his primary right-back. Wesley has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester City.
As for Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has become disgruntled due to a lack of involvement under Alvaro Arbeloa in recent weeks. So, a summer departure may be on the cards for the Spanish international, with several candidates emerging on Real Madrid’s wishlist.
Apart from Arsenal, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the 22-year-old Brazilian international. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the AS Roma full-back.
