Chelsea have received a massive boost in their pursuit of PSG superstar Ousmane Dembele as Manchester City have backed out of the race.
Ousmane Dembele’s future has become an interesting talking point, as multiple clubs from across Europe have been linked with the French international. Manchester City and Chelsea are two English clubs that seem interested in his services.
But according to a report from Media Foot, Pep Guardiola’s team are not looking to prise him away from PSG this summer despite reports. It is a massive boost for rivals Chelsea, who are closely monitoring his situation and waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
Ousmane Dembele was already a big name in world football during his time at Borussia Dortmund. On the back of his sensational rise, he secured a big-money move to Barcelona back in 2017. While he was an important part of the Catalan giants’ first team, the 28-year-old never really hit top gear at the Spanish club because of consistent injury problems.
PSG acquired the Frenchman’s services for a bargain fee in 2023, and he has managed to revive his career in some fashion. The player is the leader of their attack under Luis Enrique, and he played a massive part in their treble-winning campaign last time out. Dembele even ended up winning the Ballon d’Or last year.
While he has had a few injury issues this season as well, the French forward remains one of the most important members of their squad. Ousmane Dembele has only racked up over 1,300 minutes in his 27 outings, but he has 12 goals and seven assists to his name.
Dembele’s future looks uncertain
Ousmane Dembele is happy at his current club, but his future is now a big talking point with his deal running out in 2028. PSG are reluctant to let him leave, and they seem willing to hand him a new deal. But there are other top clubs that are ready to offer him a lucrative deal.
Ever since images of his agent Moussa Sissoko alongside Hugo Viana, Manchester City’s sporting director, went viral, he has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League giants. However, in reality, Manchester City are not looking to sign the Ballon d’Or winner.
Viana has not held any talks with Sissoko regarding a potential transfer for Dembele. The meeting between the two was a part of standard professional discussions between agents and clubs, and it had nothing to do with the French international.
However, that does not guarantee his continuity at the French club, as Chelsea are keen on securing his signature. The Blues are looking to further bolster their attack, and they are keeping tabs on his situation. They are waiting in the wings and are ready to act if any cracks appear in the relationship between the player and the Ligue 1 outfit.
