Chelsea closing in on signing Valentin Barco

Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea are closing in on the signature of RC Strasbourg midfield sensation Valentin Barco.

Chelsea’s entire project revolves around signing the best young players from across the globe. While they already have some top talents in their ranks, the Blues are constantly on the lookout for more quality.

The London club consider Valentin Barco an ideal fit for their project, and according to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea are just a step away from signing the Argentine midfielder from sister club RC Strasbourg.

Barco joined the French club at the start of 2025 from Brighton. While it was an initial loan move, the deal was made permanent last summer. He has been on fire for the Ligue 1 outfit this season. The 21-year-old central midfielder has been involved in 34 matches. He has racked up over 2,600 minutes and has contributed towards 10 goals.

While he prefers playing in the centre of the park, Barco can even chip in as a left-back when needed. His impressive rise hasn’t gone unnoticed, and as things stand, Chelsea are ready to make him a part of their squad ahead of next season.

Chelsea want Barco at Stamford Bridge

The Blues want to further strengthen their midfield rotation with Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit, and Barco could certainly help their cause. They are set to accelerate talks with his camp as they look to get a deal over the line. Since the two clubs are owned by BlueCo, a potential transfer shouldn’t be that big a problem.

If Barco does end up moving to Stamford Bridge, he will become the 14th player to move between the two clubs since BlueCo acquired the French side. His versatility would give Rosenior great tactical flexibility, and his massive potential suggests he could end up becoming one of their mainstays.

Having worked with Barco at the French club, Rosenior is confident about him being a valuable addition to his squad. Since the player is keen on returning to England, there shouldn’t be much of a problem in the move going through.
