Aston Villa rival Liverpool, Manchester United in Khephren Thuram race

Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign 24-year-old French international Khephren Thuram from Juventus this summer.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Manchester United are vying for Khephren Thuram. The three Premier League clubs are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the 24-year-old Juventus midfielder. However, the Serie A giants are in talks to tie him to a new deal, increasing his annual salary from €2.4 million to €3.8-4 million.

How has Khephren Thuram fared at Juventus?

Khephren Thuram has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Juventus from OGC Nice in July 2024. Born in Reggio Emilia, the Frenchman spent his formative years in France and graduated from the youth division at AS Monaco. However, the 24-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with OGC Nice.

Meanwhile, Thuram has been in and out of the starting lineup at Juventus, making nearly 100 appearances while chipping in with seven goals and 12 assists. However, the French midfielder’s stock remains high, with Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa may dip into the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window, as it is unclear if Douglas Luiz will complete a permanent move. Additionally, Ross Barkley’s long-term future at Villa Park is uncertain. So, Thuram has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Khephren Thuram has been on Liverpool’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Reds are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder due to uncertainties surrounding Wataru Endo’s long-term future. Several candidates have thus emerged on Liverpool’s wishlist, with Thuram also an option worth considering.

As for Manchester United, Casemiro will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent in the summer transfer window. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has been dreadful since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain 18 months ago. So, Thuram is a viable target for Manchester United amid the Red Devils’ search for multiple versatile midfielders.

However, a summer move for the 24-year-old Frenchman will not be straightforward, as Juventus will attempt to tie him to a new contract. The Serie A giants are in talks to tie Thuram to a new contract, increasing his annual salary from €2.4 million to €3.8-4 million. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the French international.
