Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are all set to battle it out for the signature of Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush.
Omar Marmoush’s future has become a massive talking point as he has lost prominence at Manchester City. The Egyptian international is no longer an important part of Pep Guardiola’s team, and City seem willing to cash in on him.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are both keen on his signature, and the Spanish giants are ready to battle it out to sign the 27-year-old. He has become a priority target for the Madrid-based club, who are looking to revamp their attack this summer.
After making a name for himself at Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush joined City at the start of 2025. Pep Guardiola was desperate for attacking reinforcement with the club struggling, and they went hard to sign him. While he had a very prominent role in the team during the second half of last season, the versatile forward has had very limited game time in the ongoing campaign.
He has been involved in just 25 games so far and has racked up fewer than 1,000 minutes. The 27-year-old is frustrated by the lack of minutes. While his contract runs until the summer of 2029, he is expected to push for a move in the upcoming transfer window.
Two Spanish giants are after Marmoush
Despite his recent struggles, he is still valued at around €65 million. With the Egyptian international potentially available, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have emerged as potential destinations. Diego Simeone is looking to revamp their attack amidst uncertainty around the long-term future of Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine international could end up making a move away, amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world. With Antoine Griezmann also in the final phase of his career, Simeone is desperate for attacking reinforcement.
The Madrid-based giants consider Marmoush an ideal fit for their system and their project. While he prefers playing up top, the 27-year-old is comfortable enough to feature anywhere in attack. While he is a priority target for the Reds and the Whites, they will have stiff competition for him from Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are looking for an ideal successor to Rober Lewandowski, and Marmoush can certainly help their cause. With Atletico willing to break the bank on him and ready to make him the leader of their attack, it will be interesting to see what decision he makes regarding his future.
