According to Sports Boom, Micky van de Ven has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Tottenham, thereby fuelling speculation over his immediate future. The Dutch defender has major suitors ahead of the summer, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, although Manchester United might not approach.
Van de Ven is among a host of Tottenham stars who could attract attention ahead of the summer. The plight of the north London side, who are destined to miss out on Champions League football next season, could also have an impact.
Spurs are currently close to a relegation battle, and many believe they could even go down by the time the season ends. Either way, without Champions League football, there may be plenty of stars looking to leave, with Van de Ven certainly one of them.
There have been reports stating that talks over a new deal with Spurs had stalled, and it now appears that Van de Ven has rejected the idea of a new contract. Turning down a potential offer could further intensify speculation surrounding his immediate future.
Manchester United were linked alongside Real Madrid, but it appears the Red Devils are not interested in pursuing the 24-year-old Tottenham speedster. As a result, Van de Ven may be open to the idea of a switch to Spain, where Barcelona are also interested.
Micky van de Ven to Spain?
Real Madrid are seen as the favourites to pursue Van de Ven ahead of the summer, but they could face competition from rivals Barcelona. Both Spanish giants are expected to sign new defenders, although Tottenham’s demands might make any deal untenable.
Tottenham are reportedly demanding £100 million to sell Van de Ven, having signed him from Wolfsburg in a deal rising to £43 million in 2023. The Dutchman is under contract until 2029, and Spurs were reportedly hoping to tie him down to a new deal until 2031, which he has refused. At that price point, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid or Barcelona would be willing to take the plunge for the defender.
