Chelsea rival Newcastle United in Darwin Nunez chase

Chelsea and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

Darwin Nunez joined Al-Hilal from Liverpool last summer, but he has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Karim Benzema. The 26-year-old wants to leave the Saudi Pro League club so that he can play regularly, and a return to the Premier League could be on the cards for him amid his links with top-flight clubs.

According to a report by Chronicle Live, Chelsea and Newcastle United are hoping to secure his signature, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds. The 26-year-old has played in the Premier League for Liverpool, and he helped them win the league title last season. Even though Nunez was not a prolific goalscorer for Liverpool, he did reasonably well, and he could be a useful player for both clubs.

Chelsea need to add more quality in depth to the attacking unit. They invested in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro last summer, and Delap has been underwhelming. They need more options in the final third, and the South American striker could be ideal for them.

Darwin Nunez will be desperate to get his career back on track, and he knows the Premier League well. He might be able to make the desired impact if he returns to England. The 26-year-old will want to compete regularly at a high level, and the opportunity to move to Chelsea will be exciting for him. The West Londoners are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they could help him push for major trophies.

Newcastle United also want Nunez

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are also keen on signing Darwin Nunez. There have been rumours surrounding the future of Nick Woltemade, who joined the Tyneside club last summer. Yoane Wissa has not made the desired impact either.

The Magpies need to invest in another striker, and it will be interesting to see if they are prepared to move for the former Liverpool striker. Both clubs have an ambitious project and the resources to build a formidable team. The Uruguayan international could be attracted to the idea of joining them.
