Manchester United plan scouting trip for Sedi Kinteh, face Chelsea battle

Manchester United are planning a trip to Norway to watch defensive target Sedi Kinteh in action for Tromsø, with Chelsea also keen on the defender.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the young Gambian defender Sedi Kinteh. The Red Devils plan to watch him in action for Norwegian side Tromsø ahead of a potential approach in the summer, with Chelsea interested in the 19-year-old defensive sensation too.

Top Premier League teams are constantly looking for talents in the market that suit their plans for both the present and the future. Clubs with a wider scouting network often find players outside the regular radar, which has been the case with a select few English top-flight sides.

Manchester United, for instance, have been actively scouting and signing young players from across the world, including Africa. Now, they are tracking a top defensive prospect from the continent, although he currently plays in Norway for Tromsø.

That player is Sedi Kinteh, the 19-year-old defender who has impressed with his displays for Tromsø. Manchester United were linked with Kinteh recently alongwith Chelsea, and now the Red Devils are planning to watch him in action for his club.

A scouting trip is on the cards for the club’s observers, which could lead to a potential approach in the summer window. Manchester United are eager to build a strong squad for the future and believe players like Kinteh could be part of the solution if they develop him in the right way. The Red Devils have recently been credited for the progress of rising stars like Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, and Kinteh could be next.

Manchester United to face competition?

Chelsea are also keen on Kinteh, and their squad-building model has been to sign young talents and develop them into top-class stars. The defensive unit has been problematic for the Blues of late, and they also missed out on signing French defender Jérémy Jacquet, who is of a similar age to Kinteh, for example.

Chelsea could be fierce competition for the 19-year-old, and Manchester United faces a challenge to get a deal done. However, the Red Devils are currently seen as the frontrunners, having taken progressive steps in the chase, but they cannot underestimate the London giants in any transfer scenario.
