Liverpool, Manchester United unwilling to pay £50 million to sign Mateus Mane

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to pay £50 million to sign 18-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers prodigy Mateus Mane this summer.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in Mateus Mane. The Premier League giants have closely tracked the youngster’s progress, and they want to sign him from Wolverhampton Wanderers wonderkid in the summer transfer window.

However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are demanding £50 million to part ways with the teenage sensation, which has created an issue for Liverpool and Manchester United. The two high-profile clubs are not ready to pay £50 million to secure the Englishman’s services in the summer transfer window.

Who is Mateus Mane?

Mateus Mane has been a rare bright spot in a dreadful campaign for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Born in Barreiro, the teenage sensation began his youth career in Portugal before moving to England by joining AFC Rochdale in 2016. However, the 18-year-old graduated from the youth division at Wolverhampton Wanderers, having been with the club since March 2024.

While Mane made his senior bow for Wolves towards the end of the 2024/25 season, he has enjoyed his breakthrough under Rob Edwards after making his first start last month. The English youth international has scored twice and provided two assists in 17 Premier League outings this term. So, it is hardly surprising that high-profile clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in him.

A man in demand

Liverpool’s interest in Mateus Mane is somewhat surprising, considering they signed two strikers last summer. However, Mane’s versatility makes him an appealing target amid uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future.

As for Manchester United, with Joshua Zirkzee facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, the Red Devils can do with a long-term replacement. While an experienced striker would be ideal for Manchester United, Mane can be a long-term solution in the final third, as the Englishman can be an ideal alternative to Benjamin Sesko.

However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are demanding £50 million to part ways with the teenage sensation, which has created an issue for Liverpool and Manchester United. The two high-profile clubs are not ready to pay £50 million to secure the 18-year-old English youth international’s services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the player.
