Liverpool are part of the race for Sean Steur alongside Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United ahead of the summer.
Ajax have a big task on their hands when it comes to keeping hold of their teenage midfield sensation, as Team Talk reports that Liverpool are chasing the young talent. Arsenal and Manchester United are also in the race for the 18-year-old Dutch prodigy.
Central midfield is an area that most top teams in the Premier League will look to strengthen in the summer. Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all expected to bring in new players in the middle, as clubs keep a close eye on some prodigious young talents available on the market.
Liverpool have been looking for a defensive midfielder for a long time, and they remain interested in some prominent names in the market. The same could be said about Manchester United, with the club having a four-man shortlist of promising names ahead of the summer.
Arsenal have a good midfield set-up, but Mikel Arteta is eager to add a younger player, with links to LOSC Lille star Ayyoub Bouaddi. Now, the Premier League trio are keeping close tabs on Ajax’s 18-year-old Dutch prodigy, Sean Steur, ahead of the summer.
Steur, 18, has risen from the youth teams into the first-team group since the start of this season, and has gone on to make 30 appearances across all competitions for the Amsterdam giants. A two-footed player who can operate in a deep position, the teenager looks ready for the big leagues as things stand.
Sean Steur to the Premier League?
Steur is not the only Dutch midfielder on the radars of Premier League teams, with Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit. However, Steur is garnering plenty of attention, and Ajax may not want to lose him right now, as he has only just begun his development in the senior squad.
Ideally, they would like him to stay for a few years and complete his development before making a big switch. At Ajax, he could cement a place in the starting line-up for years to come, something he may find difficult at clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. More importantly, he has a contract until 2028, which gives Ajax plenty of leeway in negotiations if they do have to sell him.
