Liverpool and Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Tottenham defensive mainstay Micky van de Ven.
Micky van de Ven’s future has become a massive talking point. Liverpool and Manchester United are two rival clubs that are very keen on signing the Tottenham defender. Both clubs are closely monitoring his situation, as the player seems set to leave the North London club this summer, as per a report from TEAMtalk.
Van de Ven made quite a name for himself while playing for Wolfsburg, and he has further enhanced his reputation since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2023. While he has had a few injury troubles, when fit, the 24-year-old is right up there with the best defenders in England.
Apart from his overall defensive abilities, his pace is what stands out. The Dutch international is amongst the fastest defenders in the world, and given his massive potential, multiple top clubs continue to monitor him.
While his contract at Tottenham runs until the summer of 2029, Van de Ven is all set to leave Spurs after the end of the ongoing campaign. With the North London club struggling, the Dutch centre-back is seriously weighing up his options ahead of the summer.
Spurs were looking to hand him a new deal to secure his long-term future amidst all the noise. However, renewal talks have been put on hold until the end of the season. With the club struggling for survival and their project going nowhere, Van de Ven is ready to make a switch away.
Rival clubs want to sign Van de Ven
Liverpool and Manchester United have emerged as potential destinations. The Reds have a long-standing interest in the Dutch international, and they continue to monitor his situation. They are ready to cash in on Joe Gomez, and with Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain, the Merseyside club are prepairing for a major overhaul at the back.
Van de Ven could prove to be just the perfect signing for them, as he could help them in the short as well as the long run. His pace, composure and ability to play out from the back are a perfect fit for Liverpool’s system.
However, the Reds will face stiff competition for his signature, as Manchester United are also keen on his signature amidst uncertainty around Harry Maguire’s future. The Red Devils have entered the race for his services, and if they secure Champions League football, Van de Ven will be a very realistic target for them.
While he is keen on making a switch away, a potential transfer won’t be cheap as Tottenham would want around £100 million for the 24-year-old speedster.
