Hansi Flick wants Barcelona to sign Erling Haaland

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick wants the club to sign Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to replace veteran forward Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona are gearing up for a very important transfer window where they will not only look to strengthen their squad but also replace one of their most important players from recent seasons, Robert Lewandowski. While the Polish international has done wonders for them, his departure is inevitable, and the Catalan giants need to prepare for a future without him.

According to a report from Fichajes, Hansi Flick has identified Erling Haaland as an ideal replacement for the 37-year-old, whose contract runs out at the end of the season. The Manchester City star is one of the best forwards in the world at this point, and the German tactician feels he is the one who could help them re-establish themselves at the top of European football.

Haaland hasn’t looked back since joining City in the summer of 2022 from Borussia Dortmund. Not only has he managed to win every major title in a very short span of time, but the Norwegian has also scored goals for fun. In his 184 outings for the Premier League giants, he has 153 goals and 28 assists.

Thanks to his crazy performances in the final third, multiple top clubs are after his signature. But City have no intentions of losing their most prized possession. The Manchester-based giants have their long-term future secured with a deal that runs until 2034.

Despite that, he has been constantly linked with a move away. While Haaland remains committed to the project at City, Pep Guardiola’s potential departure could open the door for a potential transfer.

Barcelona dream of signing Haaland

Barcelona consider him a dream target for their project. While Lewandowski continues to be an important member of Flick’s squad, age is slowly starting to catch up to him, and the Catalan giants might not hand him a new deal this time around. With his departure very likely, they have started looking at potential options to replace him.

The Spanish club has quite a few top names on their radar, but none of them come close to the Manchester City mainstay. Flick feels Haaland could take them to the next level and considers his style of play an ideal fit for his system.

However, a potential deal next summer is very unlikely because of the Catalan giants’ financial situation. Barcelona can’t afford to fork out a massive fee to convince City to sell their biggest star. More importantly, they can’t compete with other top clubs in their pursuit of the 25-year-old striker.

The La Liga leaders will have to play the waiting game and ensure their finances are in check before they can go all out for Haaland.
