Tottenham already working on replacements for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven

Tottenham are reportedly working on replacement options in the event of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s departures.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham fear for the futures of first-team mainstays Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Spurs are reportedly working towards finding replacements for the defensive pair, with a few names already being linked.

Tottenham are in a precarious position when it comes to their season, as they are at a crossroads between finishing on a high and reaching their lowest point in decades. Spurs suffered yet another defeat on home soil, which makes for a terrible run of form in north London, as they have only two league wins at home all season.

They are currently 16th in the standings, which means they are four points above the relegation zone, although they are 11 points away from seventh place, which would clinch a Conference League spot. They could finish at either end of the spectrum, but given their current trajectory, relegation is a real possibility, especially considering the fixtures they still have to play.

In such a scenario, there is a certainty that many of their first-team squad members will want to depart. The big concern would be first-team mainstays Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, with Spurs already concerned about the latter’s future without Champions League football.

Romero was recently linked with Atletico Madrid, while other teams are ready to make a move should he leave Spurs. The same could be said about the Dutchman, who has multiple suitors in the background waiting for a signal before they approach.

Tottenham sorting out replacement options?

Tottenham are reportedly lining up replacement options in case the first-team mainstays depart in the summer. Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae is being mentioned as a target, as the South Korean could seek a new challenge, but again, Champions League football might be paramount to where the centre-back joins next.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba is another name recently mentioned as a target for Spurs, but again, he will have plenty of other suitors playing Champions League football. Either way, Tottenham could face ample challenges in their bid to replace their defensive pair, as they might also face a big challenge in convincing the centre-backs to stay put after the season they have had.
