Newcastle United rival Everton in Saud Abdulhamid chase

Saud Abdulhamid is a target for Newcastle United and Everton ahead of the summer following his impressive displays with RC Lens.

According to Team Talk, Saud Abdulhamid is emerging as a target for Newcastle United and Everton ahead of the summer window. The RC Lens star, currently on loan from AS Roma, has been performing at a top level with the French giants sitting at the top of the summit, and could be on the move again when the season ends.

Saud Abdulhamid has made his mark since coming to Europe from Saudi Arabia after Roma acquired him for a decent fee in the summer of 2024. While things have not worked out for him in the right way in the Italian capital, he has found his mark in France.

Abdulhamid joined Ligue 1 leaders RC Lens in the summer after only a solitary season with Roma, but he has been impressive for the French side. He was recently scouted by Newcastle United during Lens’ 5-0 win over Paris FC, where he provided an assist.

The fact that Newcastle United are showing an interest shows the player is doing things the right way. Some may suggest it could be a move for their Saudi-based owners, but PIF have never initiated moves for Saudi Arabian stars in the past, as any move for the 24-year-old star could be based purely on sporting merit.

Newcastle United need a new right back in the summer as Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth are expected to depart. Moreover, there are question marks over the future of Tino Livramento, with the talented defender attracting a lot of interest from top teams. Hence, any move for Abdulhamid would make sense from a sporting side, but there are some complications ahead.

Everton also part of the Abdulhamid race?

Everton are also interested, as they have been looking for a new right back to build their defensive side of things. Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy remains linked ahead of the summer, while there are other names in the mix. The Toffees may actively seek a new defender in that wide role, as David Moyes wants to consolidate his options ahead of the new campaign. Abdulhamid could be a good option for them to consider.

There’s a complication when it comes to chasing the 24-year-old Saudi Arabian star, about his asking price. Lens have a purchase option in his loan deal, but Roma also holds a buy-back clause, which could effectively see them re-sign him and probably sell him on for a profit. In hindsight, with the growing interest from English sides, the buy-back clause seems like a smart decision from the Italian giants.
