Nicolas Jackson set for Chelsea return

Bayern Munich are unlikely to sign Nicolas Jackson on a permanent basis; the Senegalese international is set to return to Chelsea.

According to a report from The Times, Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayer Munich won’t be made permanent. The young Senegalese forward is all set to return to Chelsea ahead of next season, as the German giants won’t trigger the buy option.

Jackson made a name for himself at Villarreal. On the back of his impressive performances, he secured a move to Chelsea in 2023 for around £32 million. While he was an integral part of the London club’s plans in the initial years, he slowly went down the pecking order.

Enzo Maresca wasn’t certain about him being their go-to man in attack. As a result, they ended up signing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap last summer. The duo’s arrival opened the door for Jackson’s exit.

The 24-year-old ended up joining Bayern Munich on a season-long loan. The move wasn’t that straightforward, but the youngster played a part in it going through. With Delap picking up an injury, the Blues tried to cancel his move in the last minute.

However, with Jackson pushing for an exit, the London club recalled Marc Guiu from Sunderland and re-negotiated a higher loan fee with Bayern. While he did end up joining the German giants, the move hasn’t really worked out for him.

He has been involved in 22 matches and has racked up fewer than 700 minutes of first-team action. While he has contributed towards six goals, his performances haven’t impressed Vincent Kompany.

Bayern won’t be signing Jackson

When Bayern secured his services last summer, they not only paid an initial loan fee of £14.3 million but also agreed to an obligation-to-buy clause worth £56.2 million. The move will automatically become permanent if he plays an x number of games. The figure is expected to be around 40 and would require him to play at least 45 minutes in each of them.

He has only been involved in 22 games, and only seven of them have been longer than 45 minutes. As things stand, the obligation won’t be triggered, and Bayern have no intentions of making the move permanent. As a result, he is set to return to his parent club this summer.

His contract at Chelsea runs until the summer of 2033, and there is a high possibility of him staying at Stamford Bridge next season. The player has left his options open after Maresca was replaced by Liam Rosenior. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things develop.
