Manchester United will reportedly look to re-sign 29-year-old Scottish international Scott McTominay from Serie A club Napoli in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Scott McTominay is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils regret selling the 29-year-old attacking midfielder to Napoli 18 months ago. So, a summer return may be on the cards for the homegrown star.
That is what a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes has suggested, as the Red Devils are lining up a summer move for the Scotsman. However, Napoli will attempt to secure a new contract for McTominay in the coming months, with the update suggesting that “a solid project and improved terms” can convince him to continue his stint with the Serie A champions.
Scott McTominay and his career-defining move
Scott McTominay has blossomed into one of the world’s best players since joining Napoli from Manchester United last year. The 29-year-old hit the ground running at the Serie A club, and his performances helped the Partenopei win the league title in the 2024/25 season. That also earned the Scotsman individual plaudits, including the Serie A MVP and securing 18th place in the 2025 Ballon d’Or list.
The Scottish international has also been solid thus far in the 2025/26 season, scoring ten goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, McTominay’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
Summer homecoming on the cards?
Manchester United’s interest in Scott McTominay makes sense. The Red Devils are combing the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the summer transfer window, as they are ready to overhaul their midfield unit in the summer transfer window. While Kobbie Mainoo has revived his fortunes in recent weeks, Manchester United can do with another quality midfielder.
Several candidates have thus emerged on Manchester United’s wishlist, with McTominay also a viable target. The latest report has revealed that the Red Devils regret selling the Scot to Napoli in a deal worth only €30 million in August 2024.
The Premier League giants are now keen on re-signing McTominay from the Serie A champions in the summer transfer window, with recent reports revealing they “dream” of securing his services. However, Napoli will attempt to tie McTominay to a new contract in the coming months, with the update suggesting that “a solid project and improved terms” can convince him to continue his stint with the Partenopei.
