Bayern Munich have started making moves to sign Manchester City defensive mainstay John Stones in a bargain deal.
Bayern Munich are keen on acquiring the services of John Stones, as they look to add more quality to their backline. According to a report from Caught Offside, they have already initiated a move to bring the Manchester City star to Germany.
Stones made a name for himself while playing for Everton. On the back of his consistent performances, City forked out £47.5 million to sign the English international in the summer of 2016. The Englishman has only gone from strength to strength since, and he has been one of their mainstays over the years.
John Stones to leave Manchester City
Stones has played a massive part in all the success they have had over the last decade. While the experienced defender remains an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s plans, injuries have troubled him a lot in recent seasons. With his contract running out at the end of the season, his future now seems away from the club.
Manchester City are not looking to hand the 31-year-old a new contract. There is an acceptance that it is time for both the club and Stones to part ways. With him set to be available for free in a few months, multiple top clubs have already established contacts to learn more about a potential transfer.
While foreign clubs are free to negotiate a pre-contract, John Stones is unlikely to make any commitments at this stage. He remains fully focused on doing his best for Manchester City until the end of the season and will then take a call regarding his next club.
Bayern Munich want to sign the Manchester City star
While there is no shortage of interest, Bayern Munich seem to be the most serious suitors at this stage. The Bundesliga champions want more quality and experience at the back and consider John Stones a cheap option to bolster their backline.
The Englishman’s former teammate and Bayern Munich’s manager, Vincent Kompany, could play a big part in convincing him. Even his compatriot Harry Kane could play a key part in a potential transfer.
Bayern Munich have already started making moves behind the scenes to persuade the veteran centre-back to join them. Meanwhile, Manchester City have already signed Marc Guehi this year and could make another defensive addition in the summer to ensure they cope well with Stones’s departure.
